What goes on during the coaching session?
During the session the coach capitalises on a large tool of skills and techniques that support the client in making their dreams and goals become a reality. The coach does neither give any piece of advice nor tell people what to do and what is more, they do not claim to have the ‘right’ answers. They have the right questions instead, to enable the client find their own answers, and clarify their own values. The relationship between the coach and the client is not hierarchical. Both of them work together towards creating a better future for the client.

As my coach, will you give me any piece of advice or tell me what the right option is?
No, I’m sorry! What I can do is help you ponder over ideas, offer you tools and ask you powerful questions, so that you can find the right answers by yourself. It goes without saying that I will support your taking action process, but the real work will be yours. Besides, you are the only one who knows what you really need and what is right for you.

Do you provide assessments and other types of testing?

How can you coach effectively over the phone rather than in person?
Coaching over the phone firstly eliminates time and money expanses, as neither the coach nor the client needs to travel in order to meet one another. It can, therefore, enable a client to work with a coach who lives in a different city or country, and vice versa. Secondly, it removes the visual distractions that occur during face to face interactions and thus, both the client and the coach remain totally focused on the conversation. Thirdly, during the session the client and the coach are situated in an environment, usually at their home or office, which is familiar to them, and by extension, helps them feel more comfortable and relaxed.

How soon can the client expect to see the results?
The initial results of a good coaching relationship can be seen after the first or even after the trial session. However, in many cases results become apparent after a series of a few sessions. It is worth saying that the results correlate with what the client needs, what they want to achieve, and how committed they are. For instance, there are clients with specified goals who want to take immediate action, while others want to take a slow pace in order to become aware of what they really need and follow their path to change.

Why would I hire a coach if I can discuss my issues with my family/spouse/partner/ best friend?
Coaching does not undermine the value of a close human relationship. It just offers something different and valuable: someone who is close to you is very likely to get emotionally charged, and sometimes even biased, by hearing you talking about something you find hard to do and also, they may try to fix things for you. A coach in contrast, will offer you objective and a non-judgemental feedback. They will also be committed to support you to find your own way to fulfil your dreams and achieve your goals, no matter what your dreams and goals might be.

What if I begin coaching and suddenly realize it is not working?
One of the pillars of coaching is truth telling. Thus, if you feel that it is not working for you the first thing you can do is discuss it with your coach, so as to pinpoint what is not working and see if and how you and your coach can address it. Then, if you still find it hard to proceed with the sessions you are free to terminate the agreement.

Face to face coaching has the advantages of forcing honesty, imposing concentration, and guaranteeing a personal commitment to success. It has the advantage of rapport and immediacy.
